Il 12° Fedhealth XTERRA South Africa si è corso sabato 20 febbraio 2016 presso il pittoresco Grabouw Country Club.
In campo maschile, è arrivata la vittoria per il beniamino locale Bradley Weiss, che ha vinto tutti e tre gli eventi della serie sudafricana ed ha centrato anche la seconda vittoria nell’XTERRA World Tour 2016 dopo il successo ad Albay, nelle Filippine.
Weiss è scappato via in acqua, ha sbaragliato la concorrenza sulle ruote grasse e ha mantenuto senza patemi la leadership a piedi, imponendosi con quasi 2′ di vantaggio sull’ironman sudafricano James Cunnama; terzo il neozelandese Aiden Dunster che ha tenuto giù dal podio un’altro locale, Michael Lord.
La campionissima Flora Duffy, nel 2015 iridata ITU nel cross triathlon di Orosei e vincitrice dell’XTERRA World Championship a Maui, ha centrato il suo terzo titolo di fila a Grabouw; per lei quella sudafricana è anche la nona vittoria consecutiva nel circuito XTERRA e la 13^ in totale del “World Tour” sulle 16 gare a cui ha partecipato sin dal 2013.
La portacolori di Bermuda si è piazzata 7^ assoluta (!) e ha inflitto quasi 17 minuti di distacco (!) alla seconda classificata, l’austriaca Carina Wasle, capace a sua volta di precedere Susan Sloan, prima rappresentante della nazione ospitante
